Open just one single message as plain text

Is there any way to open just one particular message that is in the Thunderbird inbox as plain text, without changing the setting for all messages?

I've read solutions that say to: Go to the "View" menu at the top of the Thunderbird window; Choose "Message Body As" > "Plain Text".

If I follow those instructions, then all subsequent messages that I open are also displayed as plain text, until I change that option back. That's not the solution I'm hoping for.

I've also read that I can right-click a message in the inbox ... Select "View" from the context menu; Choose "Message Body As" > "Plain Text".

but I have no "View" option in the context menu.

When I get a message from a sender which I suspect might be a scam, it would be very helpful from a security standpoint to be able to easily open just that one suspicious message as plain text.

Is there any way to do this? I've also looked for an add-on which might enable me to do this, but couldn't find one.

Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

When I select a folder with the columns and column widths set the way I want, then do "Apply current view to > Folder and its children > Local > Local" Thunderbird applies the view to some, but not all, folders. Even if I target a problem folder and explicitly attempt to apply the desired current view to it, it doesn't work. If I create a new blank folder as a sub-folder of a folder that *does* accept current views, I can't apply the current view to the sub-folder. It retains what appears to be a default view.

I can't see any difference between folders that accept "current view" and those that do not. Any suggestions? Or is there a way to set the default view (i.e., columns and column widths, not just sort order) for new folders?

Just wondering if there was a way to change the behavior of Thunderbird. Currently, if I add a subfolder to an IMAP mail account, that folder will show up in the Unified Inbox. Yes, I know how to remove it from there but I'm getting tired of doing that each time I add a folder as I need to do it to multiple devices.

Hi, I am moving from Outlook and struggling with Thunderbird email accounts I wish to setup 5 mail accounts, four of which relate to different people or departments and on that collects incoming email from mailboxes that are re-directed. I find that I can set up the outgoing smtp and the incoming smtp but I am not give any choice for sending mail. Also whatever I do the first account I set up always appears as the only account visible in the folders pane. If there is a definitive explanation of what to do to configure email in Thunderbird it would be most helpful?

Auf meinem älteren Laptop habe ich alle Angaben überprüft, die korrekt sind, einschließlich des Passworts, welches in meiner Passwortliste erfasst ist. Nachdem ich das bestehende Konto auf dem älteren Laptop gelöscht habe, versuchte ich, das Konto mit einem neuen Passwort neu einzurichten, erhielt jedoch dieselbe Fehlermeldung. Warum passiert das? This all started when I cancelled Xfinity Internet and went to Frontier Internet. I had previously used Thunderbird for 8 years through Xfinity with no problems. I have contacted Xfinity and Frontier and both have told me it is a problem with a Thunderbird setting.

This is the error message I receive..........

Sending of the message failed. An error occured while sending mail: Outgoing mail server (smtp) error. The server responded: resomta-c2p-555920.sys.comcast.net resonta-c2p-555920 sys.comcast.net. Excessive failed authentication. ESMTP server temporarily not available.

I have since cancelled Thunderbird and removed the program from my laptop but still have it on my Desktop computer. I am still receiving the same error message on my desktop. Everything is the same setting it has been for eight years. The only change I made was cancelling my Xfinity TV, Internet and mobile phone service. I still have Xfinity email.

Thunderbird just automatically updated (after initially being blocked by ThreatLocker, I don't think that had any consequence but I include it just in case). I went to forward a message and while the subject content was preserved, none of the message body or attachments were included - it was a blank email. I tried explicitly forwarding several messages, and it turned out one that had been previously forwarded did populate correctly. However any message that had not previously been forwarded came up blank except for subject. Forwarding using As Attachment did attach an email and populate the Subject. Not sure if something got broken in the new update...

Thought I'd bring this up here first just in case - but pretty sure this is a bug.

With the “Store draft messages in encrypted format” setting enabled, whether I double click the DRAFT message or click the Edit button on the draft, when it opens, the body of the email is empty. The From, To and subject are all there - just no message body. If I close the write window and discard changes, the message is still there.

I performed a clean install of 128.6.0esr and the same thing occurs. When I rolled back this morning to 128.5.2esr, I performed multiple tests on new drafts, old drafts, exiting, restarting, all with the encrypted format setting enabled and there is no issue with attempting to edit the draft on the previous version.

Can someone else confirm this? It seems like a bug to me. Thanks!

A few days ago Thunderbird started asking for my Xfinity passcode but keep getting message it was rejected. I can still pick up Xfinity mail using Samsung/Outlook product mail. I rechecked all mail settings (including changing stmp outgoing port to 567 from 465), checking the security settings SSL/TLS, authentication encrypted and removing the Xfinity account and trying to reinstall. But now I get a message saying https://errors.edgesuite.net/18.a425c07.1736524250.94f665e08. I have logged into my Xfinity account to confirm that Third Party access was checked. HELP!

Hi, Since some weeks I receive following error message every time I open Thunderbird: (Translated from Swedish).

Error - Deleted from (my e-mail address).

The folder 'Deleted on (my e-mail address)' could not be compressed due to an error writing to the folder. Please make sure you have enough disk space and write permissions to the file system, and then try again. What can I do? Regards Peter

Hello, Since this morning Thunderbird asks for my password everytime I click on my email logo to look at my emails. When I enter the password I can have access to my emails which semm to come in normally. If I close Thunderbird down and come back two minutes later it asks for the password again and so on. I have a problem with forwarding messages. This issue only occurs when the message is signed with an S/MIME certificate. Pressing the forward button opens the email forwarding window, but there is no content or attachment in the email. The problem started today after updating to version 128.6.0esr.
